How do I start piano lessons at home with my child?
You do not need to teach a whole song on day one. Help your child feel comfortable at the keys, notice a sound, and leave wanting to return.
Set up for one small success
Choose a time when neither of you is rushing. Put the screen or instrument where your child can see and reach it comfortably. If you use a piano or keyboard, find a seat that supports their body and feet. A screen keyboard is enough to try the first Little Keys lessons.
Start by looking for the groups of two black keys. Let your child find another pair, then choose a nearby white key and listen to it together. They can describe the sound in their own words.
Try your first visit
Open the three free Little Keys starter lessons. The child can listen, play, and repeat a small idea. You can sit beside them, read a prompt aloud if needed, and enjoy the sounds without correcting every note.
Stop after a useful moment, even if the lesson is unfinished. Ask, “Which sound would you like to play again?” That answer gives you a natural starting point for the next visit.
What comes next
Repeat a familiar activity before adding something new. If your child wants more, let them explore the keys or make a tiny tune. Little Keys saves cloud learning only through a parent account and the required parent permission; the free starter steps do not require an account.
